The Avakas Gorge nature trail is now open to the public, the forestry department announced on Friday.

The trail is located in the homonymous gorge, within the Peyia state forest with the end of the trail located inside the gorge. It was closed down in December due to heavy rainfall.

It follows the course of the Avakas river, from where the gorge gets its name and resulted from constant erosive activity on the sloping limestone rocks. The gorge is also a Natura 2000 area.

“Visitors are encouraged to take all necessary personal protective measures during their visit, such as appropriate clothing, footwear, and protective helmets,” the department said.
