A 16-year-old boy from Paphos is “out of danger” after suffering a laceration to his abdomen while trying to jump over a fence to leave his school on Wednesday, Paphos police’s assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou said on Thursday.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, he said the fence consists of a wall topped by a metal railing, and that the child was cut by “a sharp piece of metal” in his abdomen.

The fire brigade were required to cut the metal to free the child, as part of the fence had become lodged in his abdomen, before he was transferred to the Paphos general hospital.

Once there, he underwent surgery, where the piece of metal which was lodged in his abdomen was removed.

Doctors described his condition thereafter as “stable” and “out of danger”.

The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
