An apartment building in Larnaca was evacuated overnight as a precaution after a fire which started in a common area spread to the roof.
According to the police, a sofa on a third floor common hallway first caught on fire and this subsequently spreading to the engine room located on the building’s roof.
The fire service had been notified of the incident shortly after midnight, fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis posted on X.
Two staffed fire engines reported to the address on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue and all residents were evacuated. The building’s inhabitants had managed to extinguish the initial blaze but firefighters put out the fire which had spread through a shaft to the engine room.
Smoke from the fire left damages throughout common areas of the building
The precise causes of the fire are being investigated in cooperation with the police.
