Government doctors at Limassol general hospital that belong to the Pasyki union will suspend outpatient services as of Wednesday to protest over “unacceptable working conditions” caused by ongoing construction work, they announced on Tuesday.

The union cited excessive noise and pollution from the construction work, which is reportedly taking place directly above treatment areas, causing serious concerns for both medical staff and patients.

Last week, Pasiki warned about the situation, saying the disruptions make it difficult for doctors to focus on their duties and provide proper care. Patients, it added, are also suffering due to the noise and disturbances.

The conditions in which we are expected to work are beyond reason,” Pasyki said.

“The dust and constant noise affect not only doctors but also the well-being and recovery of patients,” they said.

The union also criticised the state health services organisation (Okypy), accusing it of failing to take preventive measures or properly managing the impact of the construction work.

“There is a clear lack of planning, and the safety of hospital workers and patients has not been considered,” they added.

As a result, doctors from affected departments said they will stop providing outpatient services until further notice.

Pasyki has urged authorities to take immediate action to address the issue, warning of further measures if conditions do not improve.
