President Nikos Christodoulides travelled to the Canadian city of Toronto on Thursday morning to meet with Canadian entrepreneurs and investors in the finance, research, innovation and real estate sectors, with the aim of attracting investment to Cyprus.
“The Republic of Cyprus is currently presented as a dynamic and resilient economy with high growth rates, strong public finances … and a credit rating to category A by all major international rating agencies, elements that create confidence in international investors,” government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said of the visit.
Christodoulides’ first port of call will be an event organised by the members of the Cypriot community in Toronto on Thursday evening.
On Friday, he will meet with the chief executive officer of financial holding company Fairfax, Prem Watsa. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion with leading Canadian entrepreneurs and investors.
That evening, he will participate in another roundtable discussion and a working dinner which has been co-organised by the France Canada Chamber of Commerce (FCCCO). There, he will be joined by several FCCCO senior executives
During his visit, he will be accompanied by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, deputy minister to the president Irene Piki, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis and Invest Cyprus chairman Evgenios Evgeniou.
In April, he had led a similar mission to attract investment from the United States.
He will ;eave from Canada to New York on September 20, where he will address the United Nations general assembly on September 24.
Three days later, on September 27, he will hold a tripartite meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
