Kids, time for some inspiration! Meet 19-year-old Florida activist Domingo Cortinez, who is making a difference in the health of his community.

“Taking care of our ocean and our climate is really just taking care of ourselves and our families,” says the Chicago university first year, originally from Miami, Florida.

As a Senior EarthEcho Water Challenge ambassador, he has taught lesson labs on the climate crisis and water conservation to over 500 elementary and middle school students. He has also participated in the ‘Future in the Bag’ Miami pilot programme to establish a reusable bag swap station in his local community.

Domingo has also aimed to make his community more sustainable in other ways. For example, he persuaded his school principal to switch to reusable utensils, and is a certified member of the CLEO Institute’s Climate Speakers Network and a member of the genCLEO youth group.

He also co-founded his school’s Sustainable Development Club to promote the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals in his community, and serves as communications officer for the Dream Reading Initiative book drive.

He is just one face in the inspiring generation of young people across Gen Z, who are committed to transforming and serving the world. Young people, just like you.
