One death and 288 new coronavirus cases were announced on Tuesday.

The new cases were from 32,933 tests, PCR and rapid tests, with the positivity rate at 0.87 per cent.

The death concerns a 52-year-old man with no underlying health issues. The total number of deaths from Covid-19 has now reached 232: 155 men and 77 women with an average age of 79.

In total 79 patients are in hospital, 22 of whom in serious condition. Nine patients are intubated.

Tuesday’s cases concern 61 from contact tracing, 24 among people who got tested privately, 13 samples processed at the state hospitals’ labs and nine people who got rapid tests in private labs.

Another 181 cases were found among 29,465 rapid tests carried out on behalf of the health ministry in all districts. Among the positive rapid tests, three were detected in schools, and eight among people tested at the Ergates industrial area.

Limassol recorded 101 cases with positivity rate of 1.28 per cent. In the Nicosia district, 48 cases were detected (0.43 per cent), nine cases in Larnaca (0.22 per cent), five in Paphos (0.22 per cent) and seven in the Famagusta district (0,55 per cent).

This brings the total number of cases so far to 35,297.

In the north, 35 cases were announced from 7,435 tests on Tuesday: three from abroad, 23 from Nicosia, eight from Kyrenia and one from Famagusta. The total number of cases in the north is at 3,492 while 23 deaths have been recorded.
