The health ministry announced 420 new cases on Tuesday from a total of 34,799 tests, a positivity rate of 1.21 per cent, although no new deaths were reported.

The total number of deaths remains at 233 while the total number of cases since the outbreak in March now stands at 37,650.

There are 154 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in hospital, of which 29 are seriously ill. Of the 29, fifteen are intubated, four are in ICUs without a ventilator and ten are in a high dependency unit.

The 420 new cases were identified from a total 34,799 tests of which 31,487 were rapid tests and 3,312 were PCR tests.

Limassol once again recorded by far the highest positivity rate with 1.56 per cent after 131 positives were identified via 8,413 rapid tests.

Paphos’ positivity rate rose to 0.54 per cent with 14 positives from 2,602 rapid tests, followed by Nicosia’s 0.45 per cent with 48 positives from 10,704 rapid tests and Larnaca’s 0.40 per cent positivity rate with 16 positives from 3,990 rapid tests.

None of the 1,121 rapid tests taken in Famagusta returned positive, neither did any of the rapid tests taken at care homes.

There were also no positives from the 2,075 tests taken at senior schools or the 228 tests taken at special schools.

As for the PCR tests: Contact tracing identified 95 positives from 600 tests, five were found at the airports from 400 tests, private tests yielded 82 positives out of 1,697 tests, while those at general hospitals’ labs identified 16 from 325 tests.

The 31,093 rapid tests via the health ministry’s programme found 212 positives while 394 rapid tests taken privately identified 10 positives.
