The health ministry announced one death and 431 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday from a total of 43,177 PCR and rapid tests with a positivity rate of 1%.

From over 8,500 rapid tests carried out in Limassol, 142 cases were detected, followed by Nicosia with 37 positives from 10,910 tests.

The latest death concerned a woman aged 81 with underlying conditions who died at Limassol hospital. Total deaths stand at 236 to date. The average age of death is 79.

There are 185 people in hospitals of whom 36 are in serious condition. Of these, 16 are intubated.

Of the 43,177 tests carried out, 2,940 were PCR and 40,237 were rapid tests, giving a total number of positives of 431 broken down as follows:

  • 128 from 814 samples taken through contact tracing
  • 2 from 364 samples taken at airports
  • 64 from 1,419 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 from 222 samples taken at hospital labs
  • 1 from 121 samples taken through personal GP referrals
  • 16 from 391 samples tested in private clinical laboratories.
