SBA police have confirmed that two individuals have been charged with possessing crystal meth with the intent to supply, whilst a third person is facing charges of possession after they were arrested by a crime prevention patrol on July 2 in the Ormidhia area in Larnaca.

The three individuals appeared at the SBA Court in Dhekelia on Tuesday, where two were remanded in custody and the third was released on €3,000 bail.

After confirming that all three individuals will face those charges in court on July 29, Dhekelia’s Deputy Divisional Commander, Superintendent Andreas Pitsillides, sent out a strong warning to those intent on supplying and buying the highly illegal substance.

He said: “We have a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, it simply will not be tolerated within our areas and the SBA Police is committed in combating this issue in order to make our communities safe.”

After seizing the drugs, Superintendent Pitsillides said that they liaised with the Republic of Cyprus Drugs Squad in Famagusta to confirm the substance and he pointed to that close working relationship as a key to the continued success of these types of operations.

“We always work in collaboration and cooperation with CyPol Drugs Squad, with whom we have an excellent professional relationship, where we share related information and intelligence,” he said.

At the scene of the arrest, a total of 22 grams of crystal meth was found and seized by officers, which are said to have a street value of about €4000.
