The health ministry announced one more death and said that 858 more people had tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday from 70,809 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 1.21 per cent.

The death concerned a woman aged 86 who died at Limassol general hospital. Total deaths now stand at 385 with an average age of 77.

There are 218 people in hospitals of whom 55 are in serious condition. Of these, 20 are intubated. The previous high at the hospitals was around 300 earlier in the year. The ministry said 91.3 per cent are not vaccinated.

Of the 70,809 diagnoses made on Sunday, 6,755 were PCR tests and 64,054 rapid tests.

  • 14 came from 4,223 samples taken at the airports
  • 75 from 2,425 samples taken through private initiative
  • 9 from 107 samples processed at hospital labs
  • 60 came from 1,805 samples tested in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies
  • 700 cases came from the free rapid testing programme that ends on August 1

Of these 221 were in Nicosia, 194 in Limassol, 147 in Larnaca, 70 in Paphos and 68 in the Famagusta area.

In terms of positivity rate, Nicosia was 0.97 per cent, Limassol 1.2 per cent, Larnaca 1.53 per cent, Paphos 0.88 per cent, and the Famagusta area 1.26 per cent.
