History is written by the achievements of individuals such as Nicos Galis, President Nicos Anastasiades said as he presented the Greek basketball legend the Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the Bank of Cyprus’ Man of the Year Awards 2021.

The ceremony was held in Limassol on Monday evening.

In his address, Anastasiades congratulated the organisers of the awards as well as winners over the past 20 years for their contribution in the fields of science and sport, or society more generally.

History is written by the achievements of people and one such legend is Nicos Galis who the panel of judges had rightly chosen to be awarded, he added.

This honorary distinction is the least recognition by organisers and the Cyprus of the significant contribution of Nicos Galis, thanks to whom Greek basketball had shone, he added.

On his part Galis, 64, presented Anastasiades with a signed basketball.

Moreover, the president of the Cyprus Sports Organisation Andreas Michaelides presented Galis with the top honorary award of the organisation.

The Man of the Year 2021 award went to Olympic medal winning sailor Pavlos Kontides.
