If you drive past fast, you might miss it but with its red window frames, string lights and cheery atmosphere Lola Bar on Stasandrou-Pindarou Street in Nicosia is a quaint bar worth remembering. It offers the standard deal – cocktails, music and a few nibbles but come Christmas and it pumps up the mood. This year several groovy events are taking place from live jazz to Christmas parties and even a cabaret show!
On Christmas Eve Lola Bar is getting into the holiday spirit early. From 3pm onwards the bar will be partying it up serving mulled wine, signature cocktails and a funky Christmas mood with music by DJ Antony 642 that is bound to lift everyone’s spirits. Then on Boxing Day, the mood will calm down a little – post Christmas food coma – as the bar will welcome local musicians for an evening of jazz.
Vocalist Charlotte Storer will return to the bar with her trio for some swinging jazz. Featuring Charis Ioannou on saxophone and Ofer Landsberg on guitar, the three musicians will perform jazz classics, starting at 9pm.
Perhaps the most alternative event Lola Bar is planning this December is a cabaret-themed show that is coming up on December 30. The Pin-Retro Duet will present some hot, sizzling jazz. In a Cabaret-infused show, performed for the third consecutive year at the bar, saucy musical classics will be performed. Songs and scenes from Cabaret, Moulin Rouge, Burlesque, Chicago among others will go down with plenty of mischievous energy. Nights packed with music and holiday cheer await, some more theatrical and spicy than others!
