Fairy tales and folk tunes

add a heading 1

A classical music concert soon in Paphos will treat audiences to an evening filled with Fairy Tales and Folk Tunes. The concert is presented by the Technopolis Cultural Centre which invites the pianists Ivelina Ruseva, Marianna Georgiou and Maria Avraam to join forces together on stage.

The three Cyprus-based musicians will perform in front of audiences on February 8 at Technopolis 20 bringing old stories and songs to life. The evening’s programme features rarely-heard piano works which draw elements and inspiration from legends, myths, tales and oral music traditions. These include pieces from Béla Bartók to Georges Enescu, from Holst to Khachaturian and from Chopin to Grieg dressing the classical piano repertoire with the fine colours of tradition, from the North to the South.

Before Technopolis 20 fills with fairy tales, two more concerts remain on January’s agenda.

The Miaris Trio will perform upbeat bebop tunes and melodies over jazz standards on Wednesday, merging the talents of Dimitris Miaris, Costas Challoumas and Marios Spyrou. A few days before January ends, on Friday 27, violinist Konstantina Maimari and the pianist Plotinos Micromatis will perform a special recital with works by E Grieg, HV Lobos, G Gershwin and by the young Cypriot composer A Antoniades.
