Responsibility of everyone to protect the environment says House president

We all have a responsibility, as well as the legislature, to protect the environment, House Annita Demetriou said on Saturday evening, inaugurating the Flower Festival held this weekend by the Yermasogeia municipality.

Annita Demetriou kicked off the celebration in the presence of the ambassadors of the USA, UAE, Slovakia, Israel and Saudi Arabia, who had the opportunity to get to know traditional Cypriot products and taste traditional dishes, such as loucoumades and mahalepi with rose.

She said the flower festival, established in 1997, is an important cultural event for the municipality, allowing locals and foreigners to get to know not only flowers, but also traditional products and arts.

At the same time, she continued, “we should also think about our goal that in order to be able to enjoy flowers, we should honour and protect our environment.

“It is everyone’s responsibility, but also our responsibility as a legislative body, to reach our goals, to be able to move forward with green development and to think that, as an island, as Cyprus, we should protect our country as much as we can so that we can enjoy it, as well as such events every year,” she added.
