Cyprus’ parliament on Thursday announced that its Greek counterpart had published the 12th and 13th volume of the ‘Cyprus File’.
The ‘Cyprus File’ documents the events leading up to and during the coup d’état which took place in Cyprus on July 15, 1974, sponsored by the Greek military junta of the day.
The documents have been gradually published by the Greek parliament as part of a protocol signed between Cyprus and Greece in 2016 allowing for access to the materials compiled by the Greek parliament’s investigative committee on the matter.
The files include the minutes of committee meetings, which were held between 1986 and 1987, which the Cypriot parliament describes as “valuable material”.
The committee’s findings were delivered in 1988. The inquiry heard testimony from 86 witnesses and the minutes of its sessions span close to 21,000 pages. Attached to the minutes are documents from various departments.
