In an effort to alleviate congestion and reduce waiting times in public hospitals, Gesy will begin offering beds to patients in private hospitals.
Starting Monday, private hospitals within Gesy will provide the state health services organisation (Okypy) with two to three beds per day. This measure aims to relieve overcrowding in public hospitals and shorten waiting times in emergency rooms.
“The health system is under pressure, and there are significant delays in the accident and emergency departments, particularly in Nicosia. However, all private hospitals within Gesy in Nicosia have responded positively to the request, increasing the available beds by 12 to 18 per day,” Health Minister Michael Damianos said in an interview with Trito.
The agreement will remain in effect until the end of February.
Meanwhile, Paphos General Hospital experienced flooding for the third time this winter. Despite the health minister’s request to Okypy in early November to address the issue, no action has been taken so far.
“There is a budget allocated for this purpose, and it’s time for the organisation to take the necessary steps to resolve the problem,” Damianos said.
