Lawyer Constantinos Demetriades, son of the late Lellos Demetriades, long-time mayor of Nicosia, and brother of well-known lawyer Achilleas Demetriades has died, the Cyprus Bar Association announced on Friday.
The Bar Association, in a post on social media, expressed sadness over the unexpected death of Demetriades who was in his late fifties.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and associates of the deceased, and especially to his brother, Achilleas Demetriades,” the post said.
It added that funeral details would be issued later in the day.
In April 2024, Demetriades had submitted his independent candidacy to become the capital’s mayor under the slogan “Our Party, Nicosia”.
In a statement released on the day, Demetriades said that, like his father, who served for 31 years as mayor and was never paid a salary, he would continue his work if elected.
