Motorcyclist loses life in traffic accident

Russian permanent resident of the island died on Saturday when the large motorbike he was driving crashed into a tree under circumstances still being investigated.

Father of two small children, Igor Elistratov lost his life on the Trimiklini road in Limassol at around 1.40pm.

According to assistant director of Limassol traffic police Emilios Kafas, as the 45-year-old was driving towards Ayios Mamas he lost control of the bike, as a result of which he overturned and crashed violently into a tree.

He was taken by ambulance to Limassol general hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Witnesses said the man was speeding. “This will be verified with further specialised tests,” Kafas said.

Elistratov was wearing full motorcyclist gear and a helmet.

Elistratov leaves a wife and two children aged five and 11.
