Calls to extend objection period for Akamas plan

The Polis Chrysochous mayor on Tuesday called for an extension of the four-month objection window for the local Akamas plan.

The deadline is set for June 24 and in a letter to Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, mayor Yiotis Papachristofi called for an extension, citing a complicated procedure over filing objections.

Staff was only trained on how this could be done just 10 days ago, he added.

Papachristofi called on Ioannou to take into consideration the significant role of the Akamos local plan, and grant the opportunity to file any objections if necessary.

In February, the government chose to postpone implementing the Akamas local development plan for another six months, as part of efforts to find ways to resolve the two core issues: financial and social parameters. Stakeholders were given four months to object.
