A 57-year-old man arrested in Peyia after seriously wounding his wife with two gunshots, was remanded for eight days by the Paphos district court on Monday.
He is being investigated for the attempted murder of his 46-year-old wife, outside their residence on Sunday afternoon, following an argument.
Police arrested the man in Peyia where he was allegedly found holding a hunting gun ten minutes after the woman had called police for help, saying she was in danger. He had been reported earlier as having confessed on the spot to having fired the shots.
The 46-year-old victim is hospitalised in serious condition at the Nicosia general hospital ICU, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou told the CyBC, having been transferred there after undergoing surgery in Paphos.
The incident unfolded shortly before 6pm on Sunday when police received a phone call from the woman on her mobile at 5.45pm, telling the officer on call that she was at risk from her husband, without providing her address.
After attempting to find her details by tracing the phone number, unsuccessfully, the police rang her back and were able to get to the scene four to five minutes later, Nikolaou said.
The woman was discovered on the pavement opposite her residence with wounds from two gunshots on her head and her body.
The case is under ongoing investigation.
