Police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the suspected falsification of contracts for football players.
The three suspects – aged 58, 57 and 44 – later appeared before Famagusta district court, which approved the police request that they be remanded in custody for eight days.
The forged contracts are said to be related to two footballers.
The suspects are being investigated on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a criminal offence, conspiracy to defraud, and drawing up and circulating forged documents.
According to media reports, the contracts in question had been submitted to the Football Association.
The alleged offences under investigation are said to have taken place between July 2024 and the present time. They took place in the Famagusta and Nicosia districts.
Media reported that the three persons under arrest are connected to a second-division football club. They are said to be the club chairman, the chief clerk and a person acting as a football agent.
They are said to have drawn up contracts with the players, but then submitted different contracts to the Football Association.
One of the contracts was said to be forged unbeknownst to the player.
