Coronavirus: 429 new cases, no deaths

The health ministry announced 429 new positive cases of coronavirus on Wednesday out of 36,239 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 1.18 per cent.

No deaths were announced. There are 54 people in hospital with the virus, 20 of them in serious condition. Six patients are intubated.

The new cases concern 61 from contact tracing, 35 among people who got PCR tests privately, 11 are people who got rapid tests privately, and nine were among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Another seven cases were among passengers at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.

The majority, 306, were detected during the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. These concern one case found in the National Guard, two during tests at the Dhali industrial area and three in the Ypsonas industrial area. In addition, 121 cases were detected during tests among the general population in the Nicosia district with a positivity rate of 1.03 per cent, 97 in Limassol (1.46 per cent), 49 in Larnaca (1.09 per cent), six in Paphos (0.20 per cent), and 27 in the Famagusta district (0,85 per cent).

The total number of cases so far is 75,860.

So far 378 people have died from Covid-19: 254 men and 124 women with average age of 77 years.
