A new tour in English by the Home for Cooperation on Friday will take participants on a bike ride to explore intercultural Nicosia’s history and underlying diversity. The tour will set off from the Home at 6pm and will cut through Nicosia to understand the city through an intercultural lens.
Along with animator Marios Antoniou, tour-goers will leisurely ride through the walled city of Nicosia and as the tour attempts to give voice to the silent narrators of the city allowing the participants to explore different stories and histories of public squares and spaces.
“The walled city of Nicosia is filled with structures and monuments that stand in time as remnants of the lives of people who existed in this place,” say the tour organisers. “These monuments stand as silent narrators, waiting for passersby to take a moment off their busy routines and take a closer look at them… perhaps even realise that they can in fact admire them, if only they take that moment to observe them. We will aim to look for the lost detail that never gets noticed!
“We will share stories of the monuments and its people and absorb the moments that this beautiful city has to offer. We’ll meet at the Home for Cooperation as usual and cycle through Nicosia together exploring the pluralistic identity of the city.”
This tour is implemented by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research with the financial support of the Active Citizens Fund and is one of the numerous tours the Home for Cooperation organises. As the weather cools down, lots more is expected to come from the organisation. For now, it’s an afternoon cycling tour!
