The health ministry announced that there had been no new deaths from Covid-19 on Sunday and that 912 people had tested positive from 53,715 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 1.7 per cent.
The death toll since March 2020 remains at 628.
There are 162 people in hospitals of whom 74 are in serious condition. Of these, 26 are intubated. The health minister said earlier that no one who tested positive for the Omicron variant had yet been hospitalised.
The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 80 per cent.
Of the 53,715 tests, 4,535 were PCR and 49,180 rapid tests, yielding 912 positives as follows: .
- 22 from 2,639 samples taken at airports
- 63 from 1,667 samples taken through private initiative.
- 21 from 229 test at hospital labs
- 310 from 21,146 tests at labs and pharmacies
- 496 from 28,034 under the ministry’s free testing programme for children, people in various stages of vaccination and the vaccine exempt .
