The art of oral storytelling is celebrated every March 20 around the world. It is a day dedicated to tales and captivating stories and institutions and individuals, abroad and locally, celebrated by diving into them. Cyprus too has something to offer on this day, Nicosia specifically, for old and young that appreciate the magic of oral storytelling.

The AG Leventis Gallery is celebrating World Storytelling Day with Niki Marangou’s book Seven Tales from Cyprus. Museum educator Theodora Demetriou will bring tales from Cyprus to life in three morning sessions on March 20. The first one will take place between 10.30am and 11am and two more sessions will follow at 11.15am and 12pm, all suitable for Greek-speakers above four years old.

Niki’s book includes seven Cypriot tales which she has rewritten in modern demotic Greek, often combining elements from two or three stories while also adding her own. Niki’s aim was to rewrite these fairy tales tailored for the kids of today’s generation and there is no better day to share them than World Storytelling Day.
