National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre receives positive evaluation for fund management

The Digital Security Authority in coordination with the Research and Innovation Foundation are now able to compete for and channel available European funds on cybersecurity to interested stakeholders in Cyprus following a formal approval by the European Commission of its relevant proposal recently.

The Digital Security Authority explained it has taken on the role of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre for the Republic of Cyprus, where it will contribute to the achievement of EU regulations and take the necessary steps to promote them in the Cybersecurity community.

In addition, it is considered a big step forward in developing the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

The development is poised to make a significant contribution to the development of the cybersecurity capacity and the necessary know-how and expertise in the Community. The National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus will support the development of cybersecurity capabilities at the national, regional and local levels.

One of the most important responsibilities of the centre (in collaboration with the Research and Innovation Foundation) is the management and distribution of European co-funding to stakeholders within Cyprus.

The DSA to operate effectively in this direction, it had to be assessed in depth by the European Commission in terms of its ability to manage such funds.

“The proposal was formally approved by the European Commission on May 4, which is a significant achievement for the nascent National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus, as the DSA (together with RIF) will now be able to compete for and channel available European funds to interested stakeholders in Cyprus,” it said.

Stakeholders will be able to apply for co-funding for the procurement of tools, specialised solutions and cybersecurity equipment, so that they can strengthen their infrastructure and services.

In addition, this is a big step forward for Cyprus as a whole to strengthen and develop the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem, the DSA added.
