Increasing migrant flows to Cyprus and the management of Ukrainian refugees arriving to Cyprus were discussed on Tuesday during a meeting between the Interior Minister, Nicos Nouris, and Ireland’s House President, Seán Ó Ferghaíl, and the delegation of Irish lawmakers accompanying him are on an official visit to the island.
According to an announcement by the interior ministry, Nouris briefed the Irish delegation on the management of Ukrainian refugees in Cyprus, as well as on increasing migrant flows that keep arriving to Cyprus, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported.
On his behalf, Ó Ferghaíl thanked Nouris for Cyprus’ support towards Ireland on issues related to Brexit. According to the announcement, the Irish side showed understanding in relation to the burden imposed on Cyprus due to migrant flows, with the chairperson of Ireland’s Lower House saying he would inform the Irish government, in order to express the necessary solidarity towards Cyprus.
