A 16-year-old girl was remanded in custody for five days on Saturday, accused of having robbed a 64-year-old man who had invited her to his hotel room.

Her remand comes a day after a 15-year-old girl was handed a six-day remand on Friday in connection with the same case, while police are still looking for three other people.

Saturday’s court proceedings took place behind closed doors, though the police have reportedly disclosed that both suspects have denied all allegations.

The 64-year-old had reported that on Tuesday night, the 16-year-old girl he had “recently met” through the 15-year-old girl had visited him in his hotel room and asked him to go out for a meal.

They then went to a fast-food restaurant, before the 16-year-old girl asked him to go around the back of the building to meet the 15-year-old girl.

Once the pair were around the back of the building, a vehicle arrived with the 15-year-old girl, another girl, and two boys inside.

One of the two boys then allegedly attacked the man with a spray and punched him in the face.

The man said he then fell to the ground and received “various blows” in various parts of his body, while his wallet, which contained €5,000 in cash and his identity card, was stolen.

The five youths then left the scene, and the man was taken to Limassol general hospital, where he was given medical treatment and then discharged.

The police have reported that “no issue of sexual exploitation by the complainant has been established”, and their investigation into the matter is ongoing.
