A teenage boy who edited into existence explicit images of teachers and pupils at the school he attends was handed a conditional caution in court in the British bases on Monday.
The boy will remain under conditional caution for the next three years, with the prosecution reserving the right to bring the case back to court at any time within that period should he repeat the offences to which he plead guilty, creating and distributing child pornography.
He had pleaded guilty a month ago and was allowed to return to his school two days later, with the British bases’ authorities saying he would do so “under the supervision of his teachers”.
He attends a school in the Larnaca district, and was initially arrested in October after the images he had edited were reportedly circulated in social media groups.
The pupils who were the subject of the edits were reportedly “disturbed” that their faces had been placed on images containing explicit content, and as such reported the incident to their school.
The school’s investigation into the matter found that teachers’ faces had also been edited into such images.
The education ministry has requested that the school file a report on the matter and is continuing its investigation.
