The state health services organisation (Okypy) has announced an outbreak of respiratory infections, including respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) , which primarily affects young children and the elderly.
“Cases of RSV are being recorded, mainly affecting young children and the elderly,” said Okypy spokesman Charalambos Charilaou, during an interview with Trito.
Charilaou noted that the flu season began much earlier this year, with numerous cases reported over the past 15 days. Additionally, coronavirus cases are on the rise, with 25 people currently hospitalised in Nicosia.
He urged people, particularly the elderly, not to underestimate the risks of coronavirus, highlighting that severe cases requiring oxygen support have already been recorded.
“The pathology wards are full, and there has been a significant increase in patient visits to the emergency departments,” Charilaou stressed.
