A 39-year-old man suspect who tried to escape police custody at Limassol district court on Tuesday morning was quickly restrained by officers before being taken back into custody.
The man had been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into burglary, theft and malicious damage, and was at the court for a detention hearing.
According to police, while outside the courtroom on the first floor of the building, he initially attempted to flee towards the stairs before attempting to jump out of a window.
However, members of the police swiftly intervened, immobilising the suspect before escorting him back to the detention cells. As a result, his detention hearing proceeded without him.
The 39-year-old had been arrested the previous day following a complaint from the owner of a recreation centre, which was undergoing renovation. The burglary, during which property worth approximately €2,000 was stolen, also resulted in damages to the building’s ventilation equipment, totalling around €1,000.
Additionally, the suspect was detained concerning a second theft reported on the same day, involving a stolen coin-operated machine valued at €3,000 from a public parking area in Limassol, near the same location.
