26-year-old detained in AEK rioting case  

Police arrested a 26-year-old suspected of arson, rioting and theft in connection with attacks on the AEK Larnaca fan club on Tuesday.

The young man is accused of taking part in an attack on the AEK fans associations building in August last year. According to police, 40 people broke into the club’s premises, stole various items including a banner and later lit a fire, damaging the building.

The stolen banner was then spotted at a football match between Anorthosis and AEK on January 25.

The suspect was interrogated at Larnaca police headquarters and then released to be summoned before the Larnaca district court at a later date.

Larnaca police stated that investigations were ongoing.
