Cyprus’ Police Chief, Themistos Arnaoutis, has ordered the immediate dismissal of a probationary officer who was arrested on Thursday in connection with an ongoing drug-related investigation. The decision, made with the approval of Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis, was announced on Friday.
The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains in custody as authorities continue their inquiries. His arrest has raised concerns over integrity within the police force, prompting swift action from leadership.
In a statement, the police reaffirmed their firm stance against misconduct, corruption, and abuse of power, stressing that such behaviour has no place in the force.
“Eliminating such phenomena remains a top priority for police leadership,” the statement read.
