Nicosia police on Monday arrested a 34-year-old man for possession of military-grade ammunition and over one kilogram of cannabis.

Officers from the drug squad with sniffer dogs had searched a warehouse maintained by the suspect in a rural area in the district.

They found and seized five full 7.62mm caliber cartridges and two plastic bags with 1.134 kg of cannabis, as well as a container with a small amount of the drug and a mobile phone.

In a subsequent search of the man’s home officers found three pieces of “a solid substance, weighing one gram”, which were also seized.

Police arrested the man on the spot for possession of illegal property, while he is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court to be remanded on Tuesday.

The Nicosia anti-drug unit (Ykan) is furthering the investigation.
