A 21-year-old man appeared before the Larnaca district court on Monday after being arrested on March 16 for driving at a dangerously high speed of 184km/h on the Nicosia-Larnaca highway, where the speed limit is 100km/h.

During the arrest, it was discovered that the driver was also operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s licence and without the required MOT.

The case was officially registered, and the trial is scheduled for May 12. While awaiting trial, the court granted the driver conditional release on parole after he paid a bail of €1,500.

The young driver was stopped during a routine traffic check by members of the ulama for the prevention of traffic accidents headquarters. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, underscoring the importance of adhering to traffic laws for the safety of all road users.
