A 47-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening in Nicosia after police found a collection of jewellery, suspected stolen goods, burglary tools, and untaxed tobacco products in his possession.

Authorities are investigating whether the seized items are linked to recent thefts.

The arrest occurred at around 8pm, following a police operation based on intelligence regarding burglaries and thefts.

Officers from the police drug unit (Ykan) stopped the 47-year-old and a 55-year-old man in the Nicosia district for inspection after they saw the older man handing a bag to the younger one.

A search of his vehicle revealed various jewellery pieces, duty-free tobacco products, fabric gloves, two hoods and a case containing multiple burglary tools.

The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing these items and was immediately arrested for unlawful possession of property and burglary tools.

A separate search was conducted on the 55-year-old’s vehicle, where officers found untaxed tobacco products.

He was taken to the Nicosia CID for questioning, where customs officials issued him a fine.
