Two men were arrested on Saturday concerning a series of burglaries that took place in the Nicosia district over the past few weeks. The arrests follow a detailed investigation by the police into the break-ins of two homes and a business.
According to a police statement, a 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with all three burglary cases, while a 35-year-old man was apprehended for his involvement in one of the incidents.
The first break-in occurred between March 8-9, when burglars targeted a home, stealing money, jewellery and a wallet containing bank cards. These cards were later used in cash machines, where cash was withdrawn. The second burglary took place on March 20, with similar items stolen, money, jewellery and a bank card. However, the card was cancelled in time and was not used by the thieves.
The third incident occurred on March 17, when a business was broken into and money was stolen from the customer service counter.
The investigation uncovered evidence linking the 47-year-old man to all three incidents. Regarding the burglary on March 20, further evidence pointed to the involvement of the 35-year-old. Warrants for their arrest were issued, and both men were taken into custody on Friday by members of the Nicosia CID.
The 47-year-old had already been detained earlier on Thursday evening, after being stopped by police in Nicosia. During the check, officers discovered jewellery and burglary tools in his possession, for which he could not provide satisfactory explanations. He had been questioned in connection with information received about recent burglaries and thefts.
Investigations are ongoing, and the police continue to examine the evidence related to these cases.
