A fire broke out in a car belonging to a 70-year-old man in the Larnaca suburb of Aradippou in the early hours of Friday morning, the police said.

Larnaca police spokesman Christodoulos Konsolos said that both the car’s owner and the fire brigade helped to put the fire out, but that the car suffered “extensive damage” to its rear as a result of the fire.

Fortunately, however, no injuries were reported.

He added that preliminary investigations into the matter “have identified signs of flammable material”, with further investigations set to take place in due course.
