Two men were arrested in Limassol on Friday afternoon for residing illegally in Cyprus and the possession of a weapon, police said on Saturday.

The men were stopped by two patrolling officers after they were spotted “acting suspiciously” in the area of Epichos.

A search revealed the 33-year-old Syrian man was carrying an axe, leading to his immediate arrest. His 34-year-old Egyptian companion was later taken into custody after officers determined he was residing in Cyprus illegally.

Both were taken to Limassol police headquarters.
