Police arrested two young women aged 19 and 16, foreign permanent residents of Larnaca, in connection with a case of theft, they said on Sunday.
The theft is believed to have been committed around 8:30pm on Saturday, on Athens Avenue, in Larnaca.
According to Christodoulos Consolos, spokesman for the Larnaca Police Department, “it was reported to the Larnaca Micro Offences Department by a foreign visitor, aged 45, that while he was on the seafront, unknown persons stole his shoulder bag in which he had a laptop computer worth 800 euros, 800 euros in cash, travel documents and credit cards”.
Testimony was secured against the two women from a kiosk where they used the bank cards the same night, he said.
The suspects “were then spotted by patrols from the Larnaca Police Directorate wandering on the seafront and were taken to the police,” he said.
He added that “arrest warrants were issued against them and they were arrested on the same day and taken into custody.”
Subsequently today, he said, “they were presented before the Larnaca District Court and a detention order was issued against them for 2 days”.
It was noted that the stolen property was recovered.
