A total of 70 boxes of cigarettes and 402 packs of non-duty-paid rolling tobacco were found in the luggage of two British women by officers at Paphos airport on Wednesday, the customs department said on Friday.

According to police, the tobacco products did not bear the required health warnings in Greek and Turkish, as mandated for legal sale within the Republic, indicating the products had been smuggled illegally.

Customs authorities seized the tobacco along with the passengers’ luggage.

The two women involved were arrested and on Thursday issued four-day remand orders by Paphos district court.
