A 25-year-old man was arrested for attacking the police while en route to a football match, the police announced on Sunday.
The man, a fan of Aek Larnaca, had been on his way to his team’s fixture on Saturday against Anorthosis, which took place at Anorthosis’ Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca.
According to the police, when a march of Aek fans reached a point at which the police had been stationed, the man “attacked a member of the police”.
The police added that the man then “resisted arrest, pushing the police officers, resulting in a minor injury to one officer”.
He was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court on Sunday.
The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
