Police and the Ayia Napa Marina will hold a terrorism attack drill this Friday from 9am to 11.30am at the marina, ahead of Cyprus’ EU Council presidency in 2026.
The exercise will simulate a terrorist strike on marina facilities and involves the police, ambulance and fire services, as well as the marina security teams.
The drill aims to test readiness, response, and coordination among services to secure the port, and to familiarise them with the marina.
Officials from the European Hector project, which focuses on safeguarding tourist sites, will also observe the drill.
Residents and visitors should expect a heavy police presence and hear blank gunfire during the exercise. Authorities stress there is no cause for alarm.
