A man who was sentenced to 300 years in prison in Turkey for forgery and fraud was arrested in the north on Tuesday, Turkish Cypriot media reported on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the wanted man, Fatih Fidan, arrived by ship, the Besparmak, from Turkey to Kyrenia port and managed to slip into the country illegally without completing any entry procedures.
Police said he entered the country around noon on Tuesday.
He was spotted in Kyrenia as a person wanted by Turkish authorities and immediately arrested for “illegal entry”. A court ordered his remand for three days.
The reports contained no details on the extent of Fidan’s fraud conviction in Turkey that warranted a 300-year prison term.
