A staff member in the accident and emergency department at Limassol General Hospital was attacked on Sunday morning, the union Pasydy said on Monday, condemning the incident and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Pasydy expressed its solidarity with the assaulted employee as well as with the entire A&E department.

“Unfortunately, we are once again witnessing unacceptable incidents of violence against health professionals, who are assaulted while on duty,” the union said.

It added that such behaviour cannot be tolerated.

Pasydy also called on state health services organisation (Okypy) and the police to investigate the incident and determine whether all safety measures had been properly implemented.

“The protection of health professionals is a non-negotiable priority and an obligation of the state,” Pasydy said, urging authorities to fully enforce the law and ensure that those responsible are punished.
