A 35-year-old man was arrested on Saturday afternoon after allegedly attacking a police officer and setting a car on fire outside a house in Nicosia.
According to the police, officers were called to a residence at around 2pm after reports that a man outside the property was causing concern.
When a police officer attempted to arrest him, the suspect allegedly attacked the officer, striking him in the face.
Additional officers arrived at the scene, and the 35-year-old was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
At the same time, authorities discovered a fire inside the vehicle of the 34-year-old female owner of the house.
The blaze was extinguished by the fire brigade.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted that he had intentionally set the car on fire.
The arrested man was remanded in custody while investigations continue.
The police officer who was assaulted was taken to the Nicosia general hospital, where he received first aid before being discharged.
