A 25-year-old man was arrested on early Tuesday in Dromolaxia after attempting to evade police, crashing into a patrol vehicle and being found in possession of drugs, ammunition and a knife.
According to police, officers were on patrol shortly after midnight when they identified a parked vehicle in a rural area as suspicious.
As they approached to conduct a check, the driver “sped away in an attempt to escape”, colliding with a police vehicle during the pursuit.
Police said warning shots were fired in order to stop the vehicle.
After it was brought to a halt, the driver, identified as a 25-year-old resident of Larnaca, allegedly “attacked members of the force” and was arrested.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 93 grams of cannabis, a small quantity of cocaine, four full cartridges and a knife.
The items are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
Two police officers were taken to Larnaca general hospital, where they received first aid treatment before being discharged.
The suspect is due to appear before the Larnaca district court later on Tuesday, where police will seek a detention order as enquiries continue.
