Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Turkey who was found to be residing illegally in the Republic.

According to the police communication branch, the man was apprehended in Larnaca on April 7 at around 3.45pm, after being identified by officers during a check.

He was arrested after it was established that he was unlawfully present in the Republic’s territory.

The 36-year-old was brought before a court, which issued detention and deportation orders against him. He has remained in custody since April 7 pending the completion of deportation procedures.

Police clarified that there is no connection between the case and any fraud-related allegations mentioned in recent media reports.
