A contemporary dance and improvisation class is coming to Limassol next week, led by Cypriot dancer and choreographer, Panos Malactos. Held between July 14 and 16, the dance workshops will be split into two phases. The morning session, from 10am to 12pm will welcome professional and semi-professional dancers above the age of 17. The afternoon session, from 12.30pm to 2.40pm is aimed at teenagers of 14 to 16 years old.
“My improv class is meant to help the dancers find the full range of movement of their bodies,” says Panos, “find the mobility in the joints and touch their extremities physically and emotionally. Using a variety of music selections, I keep the fun going on without forgetting that we are still in a class environment, a safe space to explore and grow. I will guide the dancers to find their way in and out of the floor without cancelling their qualities and character. At the end, I always like to push the dancers with a phrase I create based on repertoires I did before.”
Panos has been involved in the dance world since young, moving to London at 17 to attend musical theatre school before getting a BA Degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Since then, he has worked in Israel, Austria and Switzerland. His solo ‘Hire me, please’ received the New Choreographer Award at the Cyprus Choreography Platform 2019. For his upcoming two-day class in Limassol, interested dancers are advised to book soon (via email to [email protected]) as registration is only open for a few more days, until July 10.
